ABOUT

Two decades of hardware

ETGAS was built by constant development of its gasification technology and commercially operating  plants based on it, not by scaling a lab result. That approach shaped everything about how the company works today - it's not worth to develop technology that is not commercially feasible from day one.

OUR STORY

From necessity to commercial technology

Our technology's development began in the early 2000s by ETGAS co-founder, with early gasification trials on peat and biomass. A working pilot followed in 2006, and by 2010 the first commercial-scale plant based on the design was in operation. A successful upscale in 2012 doubled output capacity and confirmed the design utilized in further projects.

The turning point came in 2018 when extended tests with sewage sludge and various municipal solid waste fractions at Huddersfield R&D facility confirmed technology's capabilities to operate on various waste feedstocks ensuring ultra clean syngas at output.

Since 2021 when ETGAS took full ownership of Huddersfield site, it remains our primary operating and demonstration plant today, continuing tests on new waste feedstocks and other technology improvements.

ETGAS is now expanding its build-own-operate business model by developing several new projects throughout the EU and the UK, focusing on power production today and synthetic fuels tomorrow.

WHERE THIS IS GOING

From waste-to-power to waste-to-molecules

ETGAS was founded to become a major player in waste-to-X — processes that convert waste into valuable products rather than treating disposal as a dead cost. We started with power and heat because it was the fastest path to commercial proof. The same syngas our plants already produce is also the starting point for higher-value products, from hydrogen and methane through to methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

All of these start from the same syngas, produced by the same core ATR technology — the roadmap is about which downstream step we bring online next, not about reinventing the upstream process.

OUR FACILITIES

Our own built and operated, not outsourced

Engineering, Design and Manufacturing

Being a vertically integrated group of companies, our manufacturing and engineering base in Latvia designs and builds every gasification unit we deploy — this is also where our technical team develops and tests new configurations. Keeping manufacturing in-house gives us direct control over cost, quality, and delivery time, and is a deliberate part of how we keep project economics competitive.

Our Demonstration plant in Huddersfield

Built originally in 2014, recomissioned to waste feedstocks in 2021 - our operating plant in Huddersfield (UK) has run on real, difficult waste streams for years, and continues to generate power commercially today.

Currently operating on RDF / SRF pellets, plant serves also as testing ground for new feedstocks and syngas downstream processing with focus on H2 and CO2 separation from syngas and further synthesis in high value molecules.

OUR TEAM

A team built around doing the work ourselves

ETGAS is led by a founding team with backgrounds spanning gasification technology development, plant operations, and corporate and project finance — the same group that has been building and running this technology for more than two decades.

Around that core, our team of engineers, manufacturing specialists, and project developers spans technology R&D, equipment engineering, in-house manufacturing, plant operations and maintenance, and project development — the full set of capabilities needed to take a project from feasibility assessment to commissioned plant without depending on outside technical partners for core processes.
